Martyn Hale

Martyn is a long term volunteer for BART, managing our Riverfly monitoring program. He deals with everything from training new volunteers to managing the database and working with the Environment Agency to set minimum acceptable invertebrate levels and deal with breaches to these levels.

After completing a degree in Zoology at the University of Wales and a further year at Bath University Martyn taught Biology for 34 years, firstly in the state sector in Wiltshire and then for the last ten years at QEH, Bristol. He has been a keen all round angler for in excess of 50 years, first learning to cast a fly on the rivers of South Wales in his boyhood.  On moving to England he took up coarse fishing on the Bristol Avon and still manages to chase the Bass in West Wales from time to time. When not fishing he tries to improve his botanical and ornithological skills.
