BART have spent the last few weekends in January and February walking sections of the Bristol Frome and River Chew. Lots of rain and some sleet but no sign of the sun yet, but the hedges are greening up as buds develop so it was good to be out despite the weather.
We are helping with the very early stages of developing an outline project which could help to improve the number of eels we are getting into the Bristol Avon catchment. Numbers have dropped dramatically in recent years which is bad news for eels and the river.
Our small part at present is assessing the size and number of obstacles elvers would face getting up these rivers and possible solutions. If and when this project takes off we hope for further involvement and will keep you informed.
