Did you know that surface road drains lead directly into your local watercourse? Anything other than rain poured down the drain, such as litter, car oils, detergents, weed killers or wastewater can harm river health and wildlife.
A group of wonderful volunteers in Eastville have been out learning about, and raising awareness of, water quality along the Bristol Frome.
Members of the local community teamed up with BART to spray yellow fish stencils next to surface water drains using an environmentally friendly, chalk-based paint to raise awareness that only rain should go down the drain! Volunteers put up our eye-catching posters explaining the consequences of pouring toxic substances down the drain and to spread the message of preventing harm to river health and wildlife.
If you live in the Eastville area, keep an eye out for Yellow Fish and and spread she message of ‘Only Rain Down the Drain!’
BART will be leading more Yellowfish events with local schools and community groups in the future. If you are interested in getting involved with one our Yellow Fish events, please email Molly at molly@bristolavonriverstrust.org
Thank you to all of the brilliant and enthusiastic volunteers, the Environment Agency for funding this event, and Bristol City Council for their support.
